Lia probably had an owner once, as she’s much too docile and loving for a fully-grown stray, but she somehow ended up on the street and ultimately under the wheels of a car. Her pelvis is broken, her lower vertebrae are out of place and she was just lying still when she was brought to the shelter, although she was able to hold onto her hind legs a little. She also had a huge hematoma in her bladder and had been peeing blood for days. She was doing better every day, her broken pelvis was healing nicely, but she remained incontinent. The hind part of her body was bathed twice a day as the hair on her rear legs was constantly being soiled by urine, but she endured these baths stoically and looked content and cheerful. And then, all of a sudden, we discovered she had an infestation of maggots in her skin! She seemed to have become heavily laden with maggots literally overnight and was deteriorating so fast that she didn’t even reach the vet. Just before dawn, everything was over. Lia didn’t deserve any of these awful things she has been through and this merciless world never deserved her in the first place. Run free now, little sweetie and don’t look back.
